Nice twist having your dad on the show. You might as well of had my dad on the show as their answers would be remarkably similar. My dad read every Louis L’Amour book there is (literally, he can’t find one on any list he hasn’t read) and he too grew up with “the singin’ cowboys”. He once told me that his favorite movie of all time is the 60s version of The Magnificent Seven. I think your dad had a great answer when he said he likes westerns that are somewhere in between the dark, violent gritty stuff of the 70s and the whispy, white-washed fare of the singin cowboys era.

It’s also funny you brought up Sam Shepard briefly. A) because I just watched two Sam Shepard westerns last week (Blackthorn and Cold in July) and B) When I heard your dad’s voice I thought he sounded a hell of a lot like Shepard.

Anyway, great episode! My favorite westerns are probably a three-way tie of Tombstone, Open Range and Assassination of Jesse James… now off to LetterBoxd to make an official list. Cheers!
