It’s time for another Last 10 Top 10. This time our lists are filled almost entirely with 2016 movies!
It’s time for another Last 10 Top 10. This time our lists are filled almost entirely with 2016 movies!
Two Hundred and Fifty Episodes! To celebrate we invited some of our favorite frequent guests for a casual roundtable chat about what they’ve seen most recently, what they’ve seen that they the most passionate about (good or bad) and end it with a smorgasbord of theater experience stories before putting each other to the test in an extended series of increasingly intense movie games. Here’s to the next 250!
No agenda today, just chatting about movies!
We continue our series going through the forgotten films of 1997.
James and Zach read and discuss emails from listeners including several controversial topics such as audio books, marriage proposals and the emotional resonance of Arrival. Also, they play a movie game.
Zach and James discuss the new Mel Gibson directorial effort Hacksaw Ridge, then go deep on Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival in both non-spioiler and spoiler discussions.
Evily joins us again to play Last Man Standing with Marvel characters, then the Cinereelists’ original game Movie Bluff.
Now the latest in the chain of Marvel juggernauts to take the box office by storm, we have a low-key discussion of Doctor Strange, a stark difference from the other, “more grounded” MCU movies that usually carry the banner. We’re joined by special guest Evily, who was quick to profess her extreme love for Marvel. We follow that up with a list of our favorite Marvel Cinematic Universe character performances.
Zach returns to the US and thus the podcast just in time to discuss the New Zealand charmer Hunt for the Wilderpeople, among other things.
Troy Carruthers returns to challenge James to two movie games, including the classic 28 Words Later and the poster description bonanza My Kid Could Paint That.
James is joined by long-time by guest co-host and long-time listener Troy Carruthers to rundown their own personal Top 10 Last 10 lists, which is a ranking of the last 10 movies they’ve seen from worst to best.
Corey from the Soundtrack of Your Life podcast challenges James in the old-school CRL classic game 28 Words Later, then the guys test their memory of movies they rated in the past in a round of Me Myslef & iRate (aka the Letterboxd game).
Special guest co-host Corey from the Soundtrack of Your Life podcast joins James in discussing the new Christoper Guest mockumentary Mascots, then run down their favorite fictional movie bands.
James fills you in on the current going-ons with the podcast, his Fantast Movie League strategy, and future podcast plans etc – then Zach is joined by Superfan Mindy live from Europe with an update on his trip!
James is joined by International guest co-host Paul from The Countdown Podcast as the guys discuss and rank the last 10 movies they watched, including a handful of docs, a horrendously boring 70’s boxing movie, and a South Korean zombie/train disaster thriller!
James is joined by special-guest co-host Roger – who just happens to be James’ real-life Dad! Together they discuss the recent remake of the western classic The Magnificent Seven, discuss Roger’s affinity for old-west based films and TV, then run down James’ personal Top 10 Westerns.
Zach and James give their thoughts on the upcoming disaster flick Deepwater Horizon, then play a quick game of Last Man Standing before being interrupted by The Man.
James and Zach combine two movie games into one in an epic mega game of My Kid Could Paint That and Fantastic Four.
Adam & Matt from The Pilot Podcast join Zach & James of the Cinereelists podcast to discuss the aviation-centric film Sully, then run down some Tom Hanks-centric lists.
Luke came on the show and filled James’ very large shoes to help co-host a discussion with Zach on Mike Birbiglia’s latest film, Don’t Think Twice. Then we talk a little bit about improv and the desire to create, and run down our top five lists, Luke’s Top 5 Movies that have a fictional version of a clearly real thing, and my Top 5 Movies about Comedians.
Listener Megan is back to play some movie games with us. Because she’s a marine biologist, we play Last Man Standing with the category “Movies that feature a marine mammal.” Then Zach gives James and Megan the ultimate 1996 quiz…how well do you remember that year?
We continue to work our way through the 1990s by listing off our Top 10 Forgotten Films of 1996. We tried to pick movies that we think are definitely worth a watch, yet no one is really talking about them any more. We are joined by longtime listener Megan who brings a top ten list of her own. Fun fact: Megan and Zach actually used to do a podcast of their own 7 years ago! It’s no longer available on iTunes, but you can hear the first three episodes of the Yes We Would podcast by becoming a Patreon subscriber.
It’s time again for another Last 10 Top 10 list, and so James and Zach run through the last ten movies they have each seen and rank them against each other.
Andrew James, co-host of Cinecast at Row Three, joins us again to play some movie games. Can he break out of the “High School Musical” doldrums? Did Zach give “8 1/2” the Fellini Flop? Does James secretly like “Singin’ in the Rain?” There’s only one way to find out.
We are happy to be joined this week by Andrew James, co-host of Row3’s Cinecast Podcast. We discuss our Top 5 Litmus Test films…these are movies that are not necessarily your absolute favorites, but movies that are so great to you that you simply cannot understand or relate to anyone that doesn’t enjoy/like this movie. It’s a fun episode and we think you’ll like it. Be sure to send us your Litmus Test films as well!
